Introduction to GMAR
The 3rd Annual GrizzlyMan Adventure Race and Black Bear Challenge, brought to you by The Rocky Mountaineers, 
is scheduled for April 17th, 2010! The race will take place at the 28,000 acre Lubrecht Experimental Forest and the 37,000 acre Resort at Paws Up. Nestled in the mountains of western Montana and situated 30 miles northeast of Missoula, this rugged landscape will provide a challenging venue to racers of all skill levels. As the race course is currently under development, several event details have not been finalized. However, racers should plan on being prepared to trail run, orienteer, trek off-trail, mountain bike and whitewater paddle (GMAR only) their way through the course.
Again, there will be two separate races. With finish times estimated at 8-10 hours, The GrizzlyMan Adventure Race will be a qualifier for 2010 USARA Nationals! The Black Bear Challenge will be a slightly less intense 4-6 hour course for racers interested in an introduction to adventure racing. The Black Bear will include no paddling or water navigation. Both races are sanctioned USARA events. Racers can compete solo or as 2 person teams (non-relay). Team categories will include male, female, and coed with the winning coed team receiving funds towards their 2010 USARA Nationals registration! Registration will be limited to 300 participants and the shotgun initiated mass start for both races will add to excitement of your race experience. Due to the preparation required for an event of this scale, race-day registration will not be permitted. Check back soon for registration details!
For racers traveling from out of town, luxury accommodations are available at The Resort at Paws Up (the site of the start/finish). Also, economy lodging in rustic cabins is available at Lubrecht Forest. We’re looking forward to another great race day in 2010! Come join us!
